Teacher of the Visually Impaired Jobs

When students are challenged by visual impairments, it takes a special type of professional to bring their worlds – and their futures – to life. That’s what teachers of the visually impaired, like you, do every day. At ProCare Therapy, we help you bring your career to life. We offer access to exclusive teacher of the blind and visually impaired job openings with great school districts throughout the country, outstanding career support, competitive salaries, and comprehensive benefits.

Teacher of the Visually Impaired Responsibilities

The main function of a teacher of the visually impaired is to help students receive a complete education, regardless of their vision impairment. Some responsibilities include providing screening and referral procedures to appropriate personnel and recommending appropriate specialized evaluations and assessments, such as for low vision, orientation and mobility, psychosocial, and adaptive physical education. Teachers of the visually impaired also consult with psychologists, classroom teachers, students, and parents about appropriate evaluations, modifications, and test administrations. Additionally, these teachers must possess knowledge about possible modifications for statewide testing and arrange for necessary modifications.

How to Become a Teacher of the Visually Impaired

The pathway to becoming a teacher of the visually impaired is similar to that of a regular general education teacher. A bachelor’s degree in education is required and many professionals also receive a master’s degree. A specialized teaching certification and license are required, although the specific laws vary from state to state.
