Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Jobs

Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Responsibilities

A teacher of the deaf and hard of hearing's main duty is to assist students and children who suffer from hearing loss. Your goal is to develop communication skills to help children grow personally, intellectually, and socially. Like most school professional jobs, you will also work with teachers, parents, and other school professionals. Additionally, you will be required to develop and create personalized IEP plans.

Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Requirements

While laws vary by state, most teachers that work with those with hearing loss need to have a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Education or another related field. Many teachers continue their education with a master’s degree as well. Like all forms of teaching, state certification and license are required before you start practicing, so check with your state’s laws. Most teachers of the deaf and hard of hearing are social and collaborative people, comfortable working as part of a team and leading instructions.

Part-Time Deaf and Hard of Hearing Teacher

We are working with a New York youth service department to help hire experienced Deaf and Hard of Hearing Teacher! This job opening is now accepting compassionate candidates that are seeking to help youth succeed and reach their fullest potential.

Assignment Details:

  • Onsite
  • Part-time
    • 5 hours/weekly 
  • K-12 caseload opening
  • Primary duties consist of the following:
    • Provide 1:1 services
    • Consult with administrative staff and families
    • Report Writing
    • Attend IEP meetings
  • This role is looking to start April 4, 2024 - End of School Year
    • Renewal extension for 2024-2025 school year is currently being finalized

Qualifications:

  • Must possess an active NY Deaf and Hard of Hearing license
  • Must have proficient in ASL oral/aural
  • Dual Special Education Certificate is highly preferred but not required
  • Must have an understanding of the continuum services for disabled students
  • Previous school experience is preferred but not required

This position pays at an hourly rate

  • Average of $37-45
