Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Responsibilities

A teacher of the deaf and hard of hearing's main duty is to assist students and children who suffer from hearing loss. Your goal is to develop communication skills to help children grow personally, intellectually, and socially. Like most school professional jobs, you will also work with teachers, parents, and other school professionals. Additionally, you will be required to develop and create personalized IEP plans.

Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Requirements

While laws vary by state, most teachers that work with those with hearing loss need to have a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Education or another related field. Many teachers continue their education with a master’s degree as well. Like all forms of teaching, state certification and license are required before you start practicing, so check with your state’s laws. Most teachers of the deaf and hard of hearing are social and collaborative people, comfortable working as part of a team and leading instructions.

Contract Deaf of Hard and Hearing Teacher 2023-2024 School Year

At ProCare, our mission is to encourage each child to confidently and proudly achieve his or her full potential. We are working with a school district located in West Covina, CA that is looking to hire a Deaf of Hard and Hearing Teacher for the remainder of the 2023-2024 school year.

The selected candidate will be hired on as a full time contracted employee through ProCare Therapy. A full school year contract will be awarded for you to complete. While undergoing your assignment, you will be provided with: competitive compensation, weekly paychecks, and superior healthcare benefits through United Healthcare

Caseload:

  • Part time: 
  • Direct and indirect services
  • DHH teacher needed for observations of a student and to help make a program recommendations
  • 1-2 meetings

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct instruction to students who are deaf or hard of hearing, utilizing various teaching methods to meet individual needs.
  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) in collaboration with the IEP team.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers to modify and adapt curriculum materials to meet the needs of students with hearing loss.
  • Use assistive technology and other resources to enhance communication and learning opportunities for students.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes social-emotional development and academic success.

Requirements:

  • Master's degree in Education for Teaching Deaf Students
  • K-12 hearing impaired endorsement
  • Active teaching license in California
  • Previous school experience preferred
  • Must be able to pass a drug screen and background check

  • 20-30 Minute virtual interview directly with the school district
  • Offer is typically within 24-48 hours of the virtual interview
