Special Education Teacher Responsibilities

Special education teachers work with children and students with varying disabilities. These disabilities can be physical, mental, emotional or learning. These teachers create and adapt lessons in subjects like math, writing, reading, and many more. Special education teachers also create Individualized Education Programs, assess students’ progress, supervise teaching assistants, and collaborate with other school professionals.

Special Education Teacher Requirements

The requirements to become a special education teacher are similar to those of becoming a general education teacher. At a minimum, special education teachers need a Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education, Elementary Education, or another subject such as math or science. Every state requires public school educators to be licensed and certified. The specifics of these certifications vary by state, so make sure to check with your state's regulatory laws.

ProCare Therapy is currently hiring a passionate and dedicated self contained teacher for a rewarding opportunity in Lexington, SC. As a self contained teacher, you will play a crucial role in creating a positive learning environment for students with special needs.

We are seeking a candidate who is experienced in working with diverse learners and can provide individualized instruction tailored to meet their unique needs. This position requires a strong understanding of special education practices, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to student growth and development. The ideal candidate will be able to effectively collaborate with other educators, parents, and support staff to ensure the success of each student.

This is a full-time position with a guaranteed minimum of 35 hours per week. The pay range for this position is between $35 and $38 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education or related field (Master's degree preferred)
  • Valid teaching certification in Special Education
  • Experience working with students with special needs
  • Knowledge of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and ability to develop and implement effective plans
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
