Special Education Teacher Responsibilities

Special education teachers work with children and students with varying disabilities. These disabilities can be physical, mental, emotional or learning. These teachers create and adapt lessons in subjects like math, writing, reading, and many more. Special education teachers also create Individualized Education Programs, assess students’ progress, supervise teaching assistants, and collaborate with other school professionals.

Special Education Teacher Requirements

The requirements to become a special education teacher are similar to those of becoming a general education teacher. At a minimum, special education teachers need a Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education, Elementary Education, or another subject such as math or science. Every state requires public school educators to be licensed and certified. The specifics of these certifications vary by state, so make sure to check with your state's regulatory laws.

Position Full Time for 2024-2025 School year.
Pay $35-$45 hourly. Kingman, Arizona

Summary:
ProCare Therapy’s Educational Department seeks a dedicated and passionate Special Education Teacher experienced to support our school system in Kingman, Arizona for the remainder 2023-2024 school year with opportunity for renewal. School district holds Pre-K-12th graders. This position is for an elementary school. Candidate will work alongside our educational professionals to provide engaging teaching and learning practices to our young students. Ideal candidates will play a crucial role in positively impacting the lives of our students by directly contributing to the student(s) development. Providing curriculum plans designed to stimulate curiosity and discovery either in sciences, math, history and/or English. Thus providing direction and guidance to achieve their academic success.

Job Description: 

Must have extensive experience working with students or school aged children that require a highly structured classroom environment with an emphasis on behavior management, language enrichment and intensive sensory supports. Caseload consists of six - eight elementary students with moderate behaviors. IEP's, EDPs, Positive Re-direction. Behavioral management. Paraprofessionals will be assigned to support teaching lessons under the supervision of an on-site BCBA or Registered Behavioral Technician.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors or Masters level from accredited college
  • In State Education/Teaching Certification for Special Needs Students
