Special Education Teacher Responsibilities

Special education teachers work with children and students with varying disabilities. These disabilities can be physical, mental, emotional or learning. These teachers create and adapt lessons in subjects like math, writing, reading, and many more. Special education teachers also create Individualized Education Programs, assess students’ progress, supervise teaching assistants, and collaborate with other school professionals.

Special Education Teacher Requirements

The requirements to become a special education teacher are similar to those of becoming a general education teacher. At a minimum, special education teachers need a Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education, Elementary Education, or another subject such as math or science. Every state requires public school educators to be licensed and certified. The specifics of these certifications vary by state, so make sure to check with your state's regulatory laws.

We are currently working with a school district near Soperton,GA  which is ready to hire a Special Education Teacher for the new school year. Job Assignment Details:

  • Hourly Pay Rate: $35 - 40/hr. 
    • Specific hourly pay rate is negotiable and will be discussed further during hiring process
  • Benefits: Insurance Benefits provided (Medical, Vision & Dental)
  • Guaranteed Hours: 35-40 hours per week (full-time)
  • Assignment Length: 2024 School Year
  • Case Load Description:
    • Chosen candidate will be assigned to either middle school (depending on experience & preference).
    • Classrooms typically contain 10-15 students 
  • Job Responsibilities:
    • Provide direct service instruction to assigned caseload of students in mixture of Self-Contained & General Education settings throughout the school day
    • Plan & conduct IEPs and coordinate meetings with other faculty for assigned students to ensure they are on track with educational goals 
    • Coordinate with paraprofessional / teacher's assistants in classrooms throughout the day

Job Qualifications:

  • Degree: Masters or Bachelors Degree in Special Education (or related field)
  • License / Certification: Active Georgia teaching certification for Special Education
  • Previous school experience preferred, but new grads also welcome!
