Special Education Teacher Responsibilities

Special education teachers work with children and students with varying disabilities. These disabilities can be physical, mental, emotional or learning. These teachers create and adapt lessons in subjects like math, writing, reading, and many more. Special education teachers also create Individualized Education Programs, assess students’ progress, supervise teaching assistants, and collaborate with other school professionals.

Special Education Teacher Requirements

The requirements to become a special education teacher are similar to those of becoming a general education teacher. At a minimum, special education teachers need a Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education, Elementary Education, or another subject such as math or science. Every state requires public school educators to be licensed and certified. The specifics of these certifications vary by state, so make sure to check with your state's regulatory laws.

Summary:
ProCare Therapy’s Educational Department seeks a dedicated and passionate Special Education Teacher experienced with autistic students within the general population to support our school system in Choctaw, Mississppi for the remainder 2023-2024 school year. Candidate will work alongside paraprofessionals to provide engaging teaching and learning practices to our young students. Ideal candidates will play a crucial role in positively impacting the lives of our students by directly contributing to the student(s) development. Providing curriculum plans designed to stimulate curiosity and discovery implementing IEP’s (Individualized Education Program). Thus, providing direction and guidance to achieve their academic success.



Job Description:


We are looking for a wide range of experience working with students or school aged children providing highly structured classrooms with an emphasis on behavior management, language enrichment and intensive sensory supports. Self-containment rooms, ICTs, assessments, evaluations, non-verbal communication skills & preparing students for transition into the next grade level.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors or master’s level in special education from accredited college
  • In State special education teaching certificate
  • Strong Communication and collaboration skills with co-teachers, children, and families
  • In school setting experience preferred but not required. New graduates are encouraged to apply!
