School Social Work Jobs

At ProCare Therapy, we understand the important role that school social workers, like you, play in the lives of children each day. Your goal is to provide brighter futures to those students you work with. That’s why we work with you to help find the best job opportunities, and it’s why we offer outstanding career support, competitive pay, and comprehensive benefits.

School Social Worker Responsibilities

All students want to succeed. However, there are many obstacles—poverty, conflicts at home, violence, emotional challenges, substance abuse, etc.—that can hold them back.

School social workers help children overcome these obstacles by providing the support, guidance, and advocacy necessary. School social workers work with teachers and parents to help students overcome social, emotional, physical and psychological difficulties. Additionally, social workers need to effectively track the progress of their students and relay this to other school professionals.

School Social Worker Job Requirements

Before you find your first school social worker job, there are a couple of requirements you must meet. At a minimum, you must complete a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work. However, some entry-level social worker positions will accept a degree in a related field such as psychology. Many states do require a Master’s Degree in Social Work Education as well. There are several different forms and levels of licensing you can obtain as a social worker, depending on which state you work in. You will also need to pass a standardized exam administered by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB). Some states even have additional exams on top of the ASWB.

School Social Worker Salary & Job Outlook

The average salary for a clinical social worker varies on your level of experience and education. By the year 2026, there is expected to be an additional 682,100 social worker jobs, which is a 16% growth from the year 2016. This growth is much faster than the average for other occupations and a promising figure, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
