School Nurse Responsibilities

School nurses have similar responsibilities to those of nurses working in hospitals or outpatient facilities, but they operate inside a school instead. As a result, school nurses work entirely with children. School Nurse Requirements

The National Board for Certification of School Nurses (NBCSN) requires that all school nurses have at least a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing. Once they have their degree, they can then take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses. While most schools prefer their school nurses have a four-year degree, some schools will hire licensed practical nurses (LPNs). Like most positions in the school environment, specific licensing and certification requirements vary state to state. Returning to school to receive a Master of Science in Nursing is another way to make your resume more competitive when you are applying for school nurse jobs.
