School Counselor Jobs

For many students, forging a strong relationship with a school counselor is essential for success. That’s because the school counselor plays an instrumental role in their personal and social development, in overcoming issues, in aligning for academic achievement and in forging better relationships with others—parents, teachers and fellow students. At ProCare Therapy, we strive to forge strong relationships with talented school counselors like you - offering you access to exciting, rewarding job opportunities, as well as competitive pay, great benefits and ongoing career support.

School Counselor Responsibilities

School counselors may have different duties and responsibility depending on the age of the children they are working with. Elementary school counselors help kids develop decision-making skills that will help them succeed academically and socially. Middle school counselors collaborate with school staff and parents to create a supportive environment for their students. Lastly, high school counselors help students path out their academic and career path, along with assisting them in overcoming any personal issues. If students have deeper psychological issues, school counselors may depend on a licensed professional clinical counselor to help the student.

School Counselor Requirements

School counselors are required to have a Master’s Degree in School Counseling, Psychology, or another related field. Each state has its own method of credentialing. States will either give you a certification or license after the completion of a test. ProCare’s credentialing team can assist with this process to ensure you are qualified to work in a specific state. Work experience, either through a degree program or internship, is also expected before full-time employment.

School Counselor Salary & Job Outlook

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, between 2016 and 2026, it is estimated that there will be 36,700 new school counselor jobs created, which equates to a 13% growth rate. Depending on what state and setting you work in will determine your yearly salary, but you can expect a higher paying school counselor job with a higher level of your education.
