School-Based Physical Therapist Jobs

School physical therapists do more than strengthen motor skills and treat ailments; they strengthen lives, families, and communities. As the number of school-aged children affected by physical disabilities continues to rise, the demand for qualified physical therapists is growing as well. At ProCare Therapy, we can help you find the physical therapy job opportunity that is right for you and your future. When you work with us, we also help strengthen your career with ongoing career support, comprehensive benefits and a competitive salary.

School-Based Physical Therapy Responsibilities

The duties of a school-based physical therapist (PTs) and physical therapy assistant (PTA) revolve around restoring and promoting healthy movement patterns in children. Using their expertise in movement and function, physical therapists help students who have a disability that hinders their academic performance. They design, perform and implement therapeutic interventions for individual students in need. PTs also work closely with other school professionals and parents to monitor a child’s progress and relay any other pertinent information.

School-Based Physical Therapy Requirements

Before you begin working in schools and helping children as a physical therapist, you need to earn a Doctoral Degree in Physical Therapy (DPT). Every DPT program has a clinical setting where you gain real-world experience under the supervision of another DPT. After your coursework and clinical rotations, you need to receive your certification and state licensure. The American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties handles the different specialties you can certify in as a physical therapist. Individuals must then pass the National Physical Therapy Examination to receive their state licenses.

Average Physical Therapist Salary & Job Outlook

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the physical therapy occupation, as a whole, is expected to see 28% growth between the years 2016 and 2026. This means roughly 67,100 new jobs in total. The average salary for a physical therapist varies greatly depending on where you work in the United States and in what setting.
