Paraprofessional Duties

Paraprofessionals work in collaboration with a licensed teacher in a classroom setting. When teachers present new lessons or materials, paraprofessionals help reinforce what was taught in small group settings or individually to students. As a paraprofessional, teachers seek feedback from you on the progress of students and they may need you to assist in grading students' coursework. If you are a special education paraprofessional, you may be required to shadow a specific group of students throughout the day and to work with them and their teachers inside the classroom.

Paraprofessional Requirements

A majority of school districts require that paraprofessionals complete at minimum two years of education and that they obtain an associate’s degree. Some states and districts have an assessment certification that is required as well. Generally speaking, paraprofessionals need strong communication skills to discuss students’ progress with teachers and parents. Patience and resourcefulness are additional qualities that are important to possess.

School Paraprofessional - 1:1 Support
Location: Roxbury, MA

Job Description:
ProCare Therapy is currently seeking a compassionate and dedicated School Paraprofessional to provide 1:1 support for a student in Roxbury, MA. This full-time position offers the opportunity to make a positive impact on a student's educational experience in a supportive school environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one support to a student with diverse learning needs
  • Assist the student with academic tasks, social skills development, and daily routines
  • Implement strategies and accommodations outlined in the student's Individualized Education Plan (IEP)
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, special education staff, and other professionals to support the student's progress
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional standards

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; some college coursework preferred
  • Previous experience working with students in an educational or childcare setting preferred
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to follow directions and work effectively as part of a team
