Orientation & Mobility Jobs

As an orientation and mobility specialist, you understand that children with visual impairments need extra support to traverse not only the schools they attend but the futures that they aspire to achieve. At ProCare, we play an integral role in helping orientation and mobility specialists, like you, achieve their career goals. We want to connect you with great jobs, provide ongoing career support and offer you outstanding pay with great benefits.

Orientation and Mobility Specialist Responsibilities

Children that are visually impaired need assistance on how to travel and move safely. Orientation and mobility specialists provide that support, playing an integral role in helping students enhance their sensory, concept development, motor and awareness skills. These specialists typically work in a one-to-one setting with their students. For example, an orientation and mobility specialist might help a student learn how to navigate their school and get to each one of their classes. Ultimately, empowering students with the confidence to move freely is the main focus for these professionals.

How to Become an Orientation and Mobility Specialist

To become an orientation and mobility specialist, you must attend a four-year bachelor’s degree program. It is not mandatory, but you can also go back to school to receive a master’s degree in the subject field. Once you have obtained your degree, the next step is receiving your certification through the Academy for Certification of Vision Rehabilitation and Education Professionals. Since most orientation and mobility jobs require you to be on your feet for a majority of the day, it helps to be in excellent physical shape as well.

Are you ready to make a difference in the life of a child who is visually impaired? If so, ProCare would love to connect you with your dream orientation and mobility specialist job!
