Behavior Specialist Responsibilities

When you work in a school as a child behavioral specialist you help facilitate the treatment of students on a case-to-case basis. Typically, a board certified behavior analyst (BCBA) will work with registered behavior analyst (RBT) and operate inside the special education department of a school and might work as an autism specialist. BCBA jobs vary by caseload but the objective and job function remains the same. You are to assess students with behavior and emotional issues and collaborate with teachers, parents and other school professionals to develop a behavior adjustment plan. Once a plan is in place, you then need to reevaluate your program and determine if any adjustments are needed.

Behavioral Health Specialist Requirements

There are several requirements you must meet before you begin to apply for behavior specialist jobs. First, you need to attend an accredited university where you will receive a Master’s Degree or higher in Education,Psychology, or Behavioral Analysis. Once complete, you will need supervised experience through an internship or another form of supervised coursework. Lastly, you need to pass the national certification exam to be BCBA credentialed before you are eligible to obtain licensure in the state you intend on working in. Job Description:
  • Providing direct client care in one-on-one and group settings
  • Following the behavior reduction and behavioral skill acquisition protocols
  • Collecting and recording data based on client behavior
