The Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) plays a vital role in providing specialized instruction and support to students with visual impairments, ensuring that they have access to a comprehensive and meaningful education. This position is ASAP through summer!Â
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with visual impairments, in collaboration with parents, teachers, and other members of the educational team
- Provide direct instruction in core academic subjects, including reading, writing, math, and science, using appropriate adaptations and accommodations as needed
- Teach specialized skills such as braille literacy, adaptive technology, orientation and mobility, and independent living skills
- Assess students' strengths, needs, and progress through ongoing observation, evaluation, and data collection
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to modify curriculum materials and instructional strategies to meet the needs of students with visual impairments
- Work closely with related service providers, such as orientation and mobility specialists, speech-language pathologists, and occupational therapists, to support students' overall development
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or master's degree in Education, Special Education, or a related field
- Certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) in PA.
- Active PA clearances.Â
- Able to pass a background check and drug test.Â
