Position Available: Teacher for the Visually Impaired

Location: Sun City West, AZ
Start Date: August 2024
End Date: May 2025
Hours: Part-time (12-20 hours per week)

Position Type: Teacher for the Visually Impaired

Responsibilities:

• Provide instruction and support to students with visual impairments in accordance with their individualized education plans (IEPs)
• Adapt instructional materials and resources to meet the needs of students with varying levels of visual impairment
• Collaborate with classroom teachers, support staff, and families to ensure that students with visual impairments have access to the general education curriculum
• Teach compensatory skills, such as braille literacy, orientation and mobility, and assistive technology, to students with visual impairments
• Conduct assessments to determine students' educational needs and progress
• Provide consultation and training to school staff and families on best practices for supporting students with visual impairments

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in education or related field
• Certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired
• Experience working with students who are blind or visually impaired preferred
• Knowledge of braille literacy, orientation and mobility, and assistive technology
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
