Responsibilities: 

• Interpreting: Provide accurate interpretation between spoken language(s) and sign language(s) for deaf or hard of hearing individuals and those who communicate primarily through sign language.
• Facilitation: Facilitate communication in various settings such as educational institutions, workplaces, medical appointments, legal proceedings, social services, and community events.
• Maintaining Confidentiality: Uphold strict confidentiality and professionalism, adhering to the Code of Ethics for interpreters.

Qualifications:

• Fluency in Sign Language: Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) or the sign language relevant to the local Deaf community.
• Language Skills: Strong verbal communication skills in the spoken language(s) being interpreted.
• Certification: Possession of relevant certifications, such as the National Interpreter Certification (NIC) or equivalent, demonstrating competency in sign language interpretation.
• Experience: Previous experience working as a sign language interpreter, especially in diverse settings, is advantageous.
• Professionalism: Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality, neutrality, and professionalism in all interactions.
• Adaptability: Flexibility to work in various environments and adapt to different communication styles and preferences.
• Ethical Integrity: Commitment to upholding ethical standards and practices in the field of sign language interpretation.
• Empathy and Sensitivity: Ability to empathize with Deaf individuals and communicate with sensitivity and respect for their unique needs and experiences.
