Are you a skilled Sign Language Interpreter looking for an exciting opportunity to support students in a school setting? We are seeking a dedicated individual to join our team in Fort Myers, FL, as a full-time Sign Language Interpreter. In this role, you will play a crucial part in facilitating communication and promoting accessibility for students who are deaf or hard of hearing, ensuring they have equal opportunities for academic and social success.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide interpretation and transliteration services for students who are deaf or hard of hearing in classroom settings, school events, and extracurricular activities.
  • Facilitate communication between students, teachers, and other school personnel to ensure that information is accurately conveyed and understood.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) by providing input on communication goals and strategies.
  • Collaborate with teachers, speech-language pathologists, and other support staff to create inclusive learning environments that meet the needs of students with hearing impairments.
  • Foster positive relationships with students and promote their self-advocacy skills, encouraging independence and empowerment.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times, respecting the privacy and dignity of students and families.

Qualifications:

  • Certification as a Sign Language Interpreter by the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) or equivalent credential.
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and familiarity with other sign systems used in educational settings.
  • Experience working as a sign language interpreter in a school or educational setting preferred.
  • Knowledge of educational terminology and principles, as well as special education laws and regulations related to students with disabilities.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to establish rapport and build positive relationships with students and staff.
  • Flexibility, adaptability, and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
