Sign Language Interpreter - Fort Myers, FL

ProCare Therapy is seeking a dedicated Sign Language Interpreter to join our team in Fort Myers, FL. As a contracted Sign Language Interpreter, you will play a vital role in facilitating effective communication between individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing and those who are hearing. You will be responsible for accurately interpreting spoken language into sign language and vice versa, ensuring that all parties involved in the communication process have full access to information and are able to effectively interact with one another.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide interpretation services for deaf or hard of hearing individuals in various settings such as educational institutions, medical facilities, social service agencies, and community events.
• Interpret spoken language into American Sign Language (ASL) or other appropriate sign language systems, and vice versa, using clear and concise language.
• Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to professional standards of conduct and ethics.
• Collaborate with educators, healthcare professionals, and other stakeholders to ensure effective communication and understanding.
• Stay updated on the latest developments and trends in sign language interpreting and deaf culture.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Sign Language Interpretation, Deaf Studies, or a related field.
• Certification by the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) or equivalent certification.
• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and/or other sign language systems.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to remain calm and focused in high-pressure situations.
• Previous experience working as a sign language interpreter preferred.
