School Sign Language Interpreter- full time contract (High School)

Job Title: Sign Language Interpreter
Location: Richmond, IL
Duration: NSY 2024-2025, 37.5 hours

Job Description:
We are currently seeking a qualified Sign Language Interpreter for a full-time position in Richmond, IL, for the 2024-2025 school year. This role involves providing interpretation services for a student who will be in general education 4th grade, as well as consultative minutes with a high school student.

Responsibilities:

• Provide sign language interpretation services to facilitate communication between deaf or hard of hearing students and their peers, teachers, and staff.
• Interpret classroom instruction, discussions, and activities to ensure access to educational content for the student.
• Assist with communication during extracurricular activities, assemblies, and other school events as needed.
• Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and other school personnel to support the educational needs of students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
• Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions with students and staff.

Requirements:

• Certification as a Sign Language Interpreter (RID, BEI, or equivalent).
• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and familiarity with other sign systems as needed.
• Experience working as a sign language interpreter in an educational setting preferred.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to adapt to the needs and preferences of individual students.
