School Psychologist Responsibilities

School psychologists work with children in grades K – 12, helping them with academic struggles, disabilities, behavioral and emotional issues. School psychologists promote wellness within a school by providing these students with anger management, social, and communication skills. Assessing students’ progress and collaborating with other educators is another major responsibility for school psychologists.

School Psychologist Requirements

Before you begin working as a school psychologist you need at a minimum a master’s degree. Many school psychologists go back to school and receive a Doctor of Education or Doctor of Philosophy. Most states, but not all, then require certification from the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) where they can then receive state licensure.

About the Position:

ProCare Therapy is seeking a qualified and experienced School Psychologist to join our team at a School District in Arapahoe, North Carolina. School Psychologists play a vital role in supporting the academic, social, and emotional well-being of our students. They provide a range of services, including:

  • Assessment and evaluation: Conducting comprehensive psychological assessments to identify students' strengths, needs, and eligibility for special education services.
  • Intervention and consultation: Developing and implementing individualized education programs (IEPs), providing behavioral and academic interventions, and consulting with teachers, parents, and other professionals.
  • Crisis intervention and prevention: Providing crisis intervention support to students and staff, and developing and implementing crisis prevention plans.
  • Data-driven decision-making: Collecting and analyzing data to inform decision-making about student programming and school-wide initiatives.
Job Description:
  • Start / End Date : 8/20/24-5/5/25
  • Caseload : For next year, I have 18 students up for reeval and there may be a few initial evaluations.
  • Hours per day / week : Approximately 4 hours, 2x/month
  • Grade level : We serve K-12
  • Will consider a virtual candidate

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in school psychology from a NASP-approved program
  • State licensure or certification as a School Psychologist

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
