Job Description:
We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to provide 1:1 support to a high school student with special medical needs in Marlborough, CT. This is a full-time position, 40 hours per week, with an immediate start date and continuation through the end of the school year. The position also includes 6 weeks of Extended School Year (ESY) services.
Responsibilities:
- Provide 1:1 medical support and care to a high school student with limited mobility and a seizure disorder managed with a Vagus Nerve Stimulator (VNS).
- Accompany the student during transportation to and from school, ensuring their safety and comfort.
- Administer medication according to the student's seizure action plan, including the use of the VNS magnet when necessary.
- Monitor the student's health and well-being throughout the school day, including responding to any medical emergencies or seizure activity.
- Collaborate with school staff, including teachers, administrators, and other healthcare professionals, to ensure the student's medical needs are met in the educational setting.
- Maintain accurate medical records and documentation related to the student's care and treatment.
Requirements:
- Current licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the state of Connecticut.
- Previous experience working with individuals with disabilities and/or complex medical needs, preferably in a school or pediatric setting.
- Experience with Vagus Nerve Stimulator (VNS) management and seizure disorder management strongly preferred.
- Compassionate and patient demeanor, with the ability to provide sensitive and supportive care to students with special needs.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with students, families, and school staff.
- Ability to work independently and make quick and sound decisions in emergency situations.
- Must be available to work full-time hours, Monday through Friday, with flexibility for occasional extended hours or ESY services as needed.
