Job Description:
We are currently seeking a dedicated Special Education Teacher to join our team in Wilmington, DE. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to work with high school students in a co-teaching environment, providing support and accommodations to ensure their success in the general education curriculum.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with general education teachers to plan and deliver instruction that meets the diverse needs of students with disabilities in inclusive classroom settings.
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with special needs, outlining goals, accommodations, and modifications to support their academic and social-emotional growth.
- Provide direct instruction and support to students, both in whole-group and small-group settings, using evidence-based strategies and differentiated instruction techniques.
- Assess student progress through ongoing formative assessments, observations, and data collection, and use this information to adjust instruction and interventions as needed.
- Support students in developing self-advocacy skills, independence, and social skills necessary for success in school and beyond.
- Maintain regular communication with parents/guardians, sharing updates on student progress, discussing concerns, and collaborating on strategies for supporting learning at home.
- Participate in IEP meetings, team meetings, and professional development activities to collaborate with colleagues, share best practices, and stay informed of current trends and research in special education.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Special Education or related field.
- Valid teaching license or certification in Special Education for the state of Delaware.
- Experience working with high school students with disabilities, preferably in a co-teaching or inclusive classroom setting.
- Knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and best practices.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students.
